Crafting Nature’s Elegance Inside.
Wooden Construction and Eastern Wind (COCHI) is an architectural studio with an office and workshop in Yoshino. They use the same traditional Japanese construction method as the world’s oldest wooden building, Horyu-ji Temple, to design houses with a lifespan of over 300 years. The timber used in the construction is not bought from the timber market, but directly from the trusted mountain guardian, Mr Fukumoto. Under the slogan of ‘A beautiful landscape for the world, even 300 years from now’, the company uses natural materials, advanced and traditional building techniques and universal design to create beautiful, flexible houses and renovate old private homes. To help people discover the origins of the trees that have been nurtured and cared for by generations of mountain keepers, Dongfeng also offers tours that connect the mountains with the people who live in these special wooden houses.
COCHI is a brand produced by such wooden architecture studio COCHI to incorporate the landscapes and aesthetics created by the mountain keepers and carpenters who face nature in their daily lives.
The first product series, YAMAMORI, aims to recreate in daily life the “beautiful, airy, sunlit mountain scenery and aesthetic sense” found in the mountains of Yoshino cedar, cared for by the mountain guardian Fukumoto, who nurtures trees that have travelled over 500 years (partitions and mobiles).
